Q: Why it is important to build up your personal food reserves?
A: Building your food reserves for your family is one of the most prudent actions you can take. No one knows what can or will affect the functioning of society or food distribution. With food reserves, you eliminate the worry. Each week, the attention of the nation is focusing more intensely on families storing quantities of emergency food and water in their homes. Why? Potential disruptions in the food supply can be caused by a number of factors such as unemployment, economic downturn, erratic weather, droughts, earthquakes, hurricanes, floods, contamination of food supplies, and transportation disruptions.
Q: How long is the shelf life?
A: Our foods require no added preservatives for the extended shelf life. Preservatives are only needed when food ingredients are exposed to air, moisture, or light. Our products are dehydrated, so there is no moisture. In our packing facility, the pouches are flushed with CO2 so all oxygen is removed. The packaging film of our pouches has a light barrier so no light can penetrate the pouches. Properly dried and stored food generally does not spoil so it has an almost unlimited shelf life; however, we recommend for the highest nutritional value possible, the products are best when eaten within 15 years, bakery goods within the first 3 years.
Q: What is the best temperature for storage?
A: As with all food, the optimum storage conditions are cool and dry (70 degrees Fahrenheit or lower). Prolonged heat decreases the nutritional value. We advise against storing the food in a garage or attic where summertime temperatures can exceed 100 degrees. Cold or freezing temperatures are of no concern.
Q: Are there any specifications you require from your suppliers?
A: We have very strict ingredient requirements as follows:
• Dehydrated from premium-grade fresh raw foods
• No genetically altered food
• No added MSG
• No imports from countries using illegal fertilizers and insecticides
• No hydrogenated oil
Q: Many of my friends are vegetarian and I noticed that some of the foods have beef, chicken, or ham in the title. Do you have vegetarian substitutes for these meals?
A: All supplies are vegetarian. Any reference to beef, chicken, or ham refers to textured vegetable protein (TVP), which is a high-protein meat substitute. We use chicken, beef, and ham on our labels to represent flavor profiles.
Q: Does the food contain trans fats?
A: All of our products have zero trans fats.
Q: Are the products organic?
A: A few of the ingredients are organic but not all.
Q: Are the products kosher?
A: Yes, the products are certified by the Orthodox Union (OU).

A: The textured vegetable protein (TVP) in our products is non-genetically modified soy. The following products contain no TVP:

Q: What kind of packaging is used?
A: The meals are in mylar pouches.
Q: Does eFoods Global add MSG to its recipes?
A: There is no MSG added to any of the recipes.
Q: How is autolyzed yeast different from MSG?
A: Autolyzed yeast enhances food’s flavor. It contains a considerable amount of an enzyme called glutamic acid, which enables taste buds to sense savory and meaty flavors more readily. There is no glutamic acid added beyond what naturally originates in the yeast. Furthermore, it is broadly consumed as a food itself; it is referred to as Marmite in England and Vegemite in Australia.
Autolysis is a process wherein a saline solution and live yeast interact. The solution causes the digestive enzymes in the yeast to “eat” itself, resulting in pre-digested, inactive yeast. Once the cell walls are disrupted, the yeast’s enzymes break down proteins, releasing amino acids, salts, and carbohydrates. The soluble portions are separated from the insoluble components and referred to as autolyzed yeast extract.
One of the amino acids found in yeast is L-glutamic acid, which is primarily bound with other amino acids. It is not extracted and concentrated free glutamic acid commonly known as Mono Sodium Glutamate (MSG). It does not cause adverse reactions any more than the free glutamic acid found in tomatoes and peas and many other foods.
Autolyzed yeast is 100% natural and contains high-quality protein, minerals, dietary fibers, and B vitamins. According to the European Association of Specialty Yeast Products, the content of free glutamic acid in yeast extract ranges from 6 to 13 percent of total protein and within end products is less than the content of other foods with naturally occurring glutamic acid.
MSG and autolyzed yeast both contain free glutamic acids and are used similarly, but they are not the same. MSG is not extracted from yeast but is made from various starches such as cassava root.
The chart below lists the bound and free glutamic acids naturally occurring in some common foods. Since glutamic acid is so pervasive, this list is by no means meant to be exhaustive or it would include many hundreds of foods. The amounts listed for free glutamic acid are those that occur in the foods in their natural states (uncooked and unprocessed). In processed/cooked foods, the amount of free glutamic acid (and possibly naturally occurring MSG) would be greater.
